Build with AI – App Roadshows, Bengaluru: What I Took Away

Attending the "Build with AI – App Roadshows" in Bengaluru, hosted by Google for Developers, was one of those events that made an abstract idea feel immediate. AI isn't an upcoming shift in how applications get built — it's already the layer most modern products are being designed around, whether teams have fully adjusted to that or not.

The day moved between insightful sessions on real-world AI use cases and hands-on discussions about what it actually takes to build intelligent products at scale. It was less about hype and more about the practical mechanics of getting AI right.

AI Is No Longer Optional

The clearest message running through the day was simple: AI has stopped being a differentiator and started being a baseline expectation. It's becoming a core layer in modern applications, not a feature you bolt on to stand out.

That reframes the question for anyone building products right now. The interesting conversation isn't "should we add AI somewhere," it's "where in this product does intelligence genuinely belong, and where would it just be noise."

Building with AI Still Starts with User Experience

One of the sessions that stuck with me most was about a mistake that's easy to make when a technology moves this fast: treating the model as the product.

The teams doing this well were the ones treating AI as one more tool in service of a clear user outcome — not the headline feature itself. That's a distinction worth holding onto. The technology can be impressive and the product can still fail if the experience around it doesn't respect how people actually want to use it.

The Ecosystem Is Moving Faster Than Teams Can Track

The other theme that came through clearly: the ecosystem around AI — tools, APIs, frameworks — is evolving faster than ever. What counted as best practice six months ago is already being reconsidered.

That pace creates a real tension for teams trying to build reliable products:

• Move fast enough to stay relevant with what's now possible
• Move carefully enough that today's architecture doesn't become next quarter's rewrite
• Avoid chasing every new framework release just because it's new

There's no clean answer to that tension. But naming it clearly, in a room full of people facing the same problem, made it easier to think through.

The Value of the Room

Beyond the sessions, a good part of the day was simply being around developers, innovators, and industry experts who are actively pushing on the same problems from different angles.

Events like this work best not because of any single announcement, but because of the informal comparison it enables — hearing how another team solved a problem you're currently stuck on, or realizing a concern you thought was unique to your project is actually a shared one across the room.

What's Next

Coming out of Build with AI, the takeaway isn't a checklist of new tools to adopt. It's a sharper set of questions to bring into upcoming projects.
